When I was asked to write this article, I sat and thought, “where do I start?” There are so many things for me to say, and as all who know me are aware, I never have a shortage of words! I decided that it was easiest for me to write about the amazing culture we strive to uphold at Westeck, and that is the Culture of Care
Home builders and industry leaders from across metro Vancouver and the Province of BC are coming together today at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver as part of LEEP Innovation Exchange 2018. With a focus on energy efficiency and high-performance homes, Westeck Windows and Doors is proud to take part in the event.
If you have ever built a beautiful wood patio or fence, and then left that wood out in the elements, you very quickly would have learned about the need for stains and sealers for protection.
Modern design homes demand large windows, patio openings and doors, yet these critical components can account for 30-40% of a home’s heat loss. With soaring energy costs, environmental and sustainability issues, window and door thermal performance is a key consideration in today’s home design.
Whatever stage in the home build you are at, Westeck is here to provide solutions. Opening Possibilities is what we do. By working with your architect and design team, we can take your home from ordinary to extraordinary. Give us a call, we would love to meet you!
Over the past while, many questions have been raised about the differences between Modern and Contemporary Styles. Modern and Contemporary mean the same thing, right? Not exactly.
Let’s look at the dictionary definitions:
mod·ern – Relating to the present or recent times as opposed to the remote past. “the pace of modern life”
con·tem·po·rar·y – Living or occurring at the same time. “the event was recorded by a contemporary historian”
It’s true, every window and door with glass in it comes with the sealed unit with about 95% argon gas in it. With today’s thermal performance requirements these products use every available technology to reach these increasingly challenging performance depths. The lower the U value the better the thermal performance.
BC’s Building Energy Step Code developed in collaboration with local governments and the building industry is the pathway for local governments to reduce community carbon emissions, and achieve the Province of BC’s target of Net-Zero ready buildings by 2032.
Recently an opportunity came across our desk’s we knew we had to take part in, Vancouver Design Week. VDW is sponsored in part by Gray Magazine (https://www.graymag.com) and is a design focused event running from May 7-13 with showroom and artistic spaces opening their doors to the design community and general public. Each year there is a theme, and this year’s theme is “impact”
