One of our Westeck team members, Jamie Brown is doing something extraordinary that I would like to share with you. Please read her personal note below and consider supporting her by donating to an amazing cause. She will be having her hair cut at 2pm this Saturday at Sassy Cuts in Chilliwack. Come out to show your support!
I (Jamie Lisa Brown) have decided to donate all of my hair to a place called 360 hair in Langley. They make wigs for cancer patients, and they currently have people waiting for hair that is 12 inches or longer.
This is in honor of my step-dad, Bill Hayes who passed away from cancer in 2012. He would have turned 69 this year on Aug 2, 2014
I helped my mom look after my step-dad for the two years he was sick and going through treatment, then at the beginning of 2012 the doctors told us his cancer had spread to his liver and his spine. We could do nothing but try to keep him comfortable as we watched him suffer through a great amount of pain then eventually die on July 10, 2012.
Going through a loss like this leaves you feeling empty and without a purpose. Donating my hair is just one way for me to feel like I’m doing something to help someone.
I have a Facebook memorial page set up for my dad: https://www.facebook.com/WilliamRichardHayesMemorialPage with pictures and stories of him. It is also a great place for his family and friends to post their comments and thoughts when they are thinking of him.
My cousin, Kathy is currently battling cancer and trying to raise $20,000 for her treatment. She is a mother of two and has lived in Chilliwack her whole life. She has a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kathys-Fight-Against-Cancer-Fund/866765750019285, where she posts all her fund raising events she is holding in the community.
Anyone who would like to make a donation of $20.00 or more and would like a tax receipt can do so by providing their name and mailing address with their donation.
